“I wanted to learn how to coach, and my friend couldn’t speak highly enough of you!“
I have just completed the Coaching Diploma with Tom and I’d **highly** recommend it. For those wanting a thorough, interesting, challenging and friendly learning experience it’s perfect. I was looking for a flexible but rigorous course and Tom provided exactly that- lots of practice and reflection. A safe and well formed small coaching group allowed us to grow and and experiment with the range of approaches and develop our coaching skills in a way that suited our own values, interests and coaching style. Lastly I have learned a great deal about myself and a deeper understanding of what a coaching client will experience. My coaching skills have deepened hugely and I am excited about the range of techniques I now have to offer in appropriate settings I am confident this won’t be the end of my coaching professional development but I couldn’t ask for a better in depth course.
This course has been a brilliant experience with much personal and professional growth. The course design is fantastic and suited my preferred learning style perfectly – learning the theory of many different coaching approaches, models and tools followed by immediate application in the coaching room. Our small group of amazing health professionals enabled me to feel safe whilst practising my new coaching skills. Tom is great -he is so passionate about coaching, very skilled and relaxed in his approach to facilitating our group and offered much encouragement, support and reassurance. I now feel I am a more confident and competent coach with a range of coaching techniques to use as needed in the coaching room with my coachees. Coaching others brings me much joy and this course has taken my skills and knowledge to much higher levels. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to develop their coaching knowledge, skills and personal coaching style as this course will be transformative.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s involved in the course?
Coaching is a practice and there is no way that you can learn how to do it by just reading about it or talking about it. You have to watch others doing it well, try it out yourself, make mistakes, receive feedback and begin to understand how to be effective in a coaching conversation.
Which is why this coaching programme involves a blended learning approach, where you will learn the theoretical aspects of the course online in your own time. Then, when it comes to the classroom based element you will be able to discuss the theoretical elements with your fellow course members and try out the ideas from different approaches for yourself. There’s plenty of time to practice the techniques you’ll be learning over the entirety of the programme, so that they become firmly embedded.
What is the time commitment?
The programme takes place over 6 months. There are 11 half-day workshops taking place during that time. The workshops run from 9:30am to 1:30pm to accommodate doctors with busy work and family schedules. In between the workshops there are approximately 2 hours per week of online material including really interesting videos, audio recordings and activities for you to complete.
We ask you to arrange to practice your coaching with one of your peers on the course at regular intervals too. In order to gain the accredited qualification you will need to complete an additional 16 hours of coaching with practice clients, but we’ll help you to find them and also these hours can be completed after your training on the programme has ended.
What do doctor’s do with all that they learn on the course?
We now have over 180 doctors who were former students as our alumni. Many of them are working professionally as coaches, often alongside their work as doctors in a professional portfolio career.
Others use their new learning with their patients and have shared their enhanced experience of using coaching skills in consultations.
Doctors engaged as appraisers have told us how invaluable the skills they’ve learned on the course have been.
Yet more doctors have shared with us how beneficial it has been to have the new skills they have acquired when working with colleagues, including trainees and mentees. Some doctors have even spoken about how learning to think differently about conversations has revolutionised their personal relationships with family and friends.
How many doctors will I be training with?
We are unique in bringing together small cohorts of doctors, with between six and nine delegates on each programme. This provides us with the ability to dedicate time and resources to everyone on the course and to ensure that it is the best possible training experience for everyone. We love working in this way and really getting to know the doctors on the programme. We find that the personal development journeys that our delegates travel along whilst on the course is transformative in itself.
